The Historic Harrison, Arkansas Courthouse

Main Street Harrison

Main Street Harrison is a program made available to small communities (under 50,000) through the Main Street Arkansas Program and The National Trust for Historic Preservation. Its purpose is to preserve, revitalize and promote the unique assets of the community - the Historic Downtown.

Our Downtown is the heart of the community. It is where our ideas as a community have been shaped and where we continue to express our hopes for the future. Downtown is the visible expression of the community's heritage and history. The buildings, monuments, parks and public spaces are the result of the people, events and decisions that caused the City to become what it is today.

Main Street Harrison addresses the economic strength and visual quality of the downtown and subsequently bringing people back together to eat, shop and enjoy a multitude of special events while enjoying and sharing with visitors their unique heritage.

Fridays on the Square is held the third Friday of every month during daylight savings. The community is welcome to stroll about the square and enjoy performances by local musicians, artisans, and dancers. Businesses along the square are open later as well. Every month brings a new crop of talent and experiences for you and old.

Main Street Harrison is a nonprofit 501(C)3 not for profit organization funded by the private sector of the community and dedicated to the preservation of the history of the heart of the community for generations to come. The Main Street Harrison program is a gift a community gives itself.

The downtown square has been awarded National Historic District status and is a fine example of a real town square. Harrison is the county seat of Boone County, Arkansas and the square boasts of a beautiful county courthouse built in 1909 and still proudly serving in that capacity today. Located in a picturesque park, it is the central anchor of the square.

The shopping district boasts of many historically significant buildings dating as far back as 1876. The shopping district remains fully occupied providing community members and visitors a variety of shopping, dining and recreational opportunities.
